1. Orange Peel 

Orange peel is a texture that resembles the skin of an orange, usually caused by poor powder flow during the curing process.

• Prevention: Ensure your Tunnel or Batch Oven has precise temperature control and uniform air circulation to reach the "gel point" efficiently. 

2. Pinholes and Cratering

Small holes that expose the substrate are often a nightmare for anti-corrosion standards.

• The Science: This is usually caused by "outgassing" from the substrate or residues of oil and moisture. 

• Prevention: A robust Pretreatment System is essential. Whether using Shot Blasting to remove heavy scale or a Chemical Spray System for degreasing, the surface must be chemically active and bone-dry. 

3. Poor Adhesion

If the coating peels off like a sticker, your pretreatment or curing has failed. 

• The Science: Without proper mechanical or chemical bonding, the powder simply "sits" on the surface. 

• Prevention: Ensure your Dipping Pretreatment or Power Wash stages are correctly timed. Additionally, check that the workpieces reach the full metal temperature (FMT) for the required duration in the oven. 

4. Faraday Cage Effect 

This occurs when powder fails to enter recessed areas, corners, or deep channels. 

• The Science: Static electricity naturally pulls powder to the nearest edges, starving the interior of deep cavities. 

• Prevention: High-quality Electrostatic Spray Guns with adjustable voltage and current are required. In many cases, Manual Coating is used as a supplement to automatic systems to ensure those "dead-ends" are fully covered.

5. Cross-Contamination

Finding spots of a different color on a finished part is a common issue in job shops with frequent color changes. 

• The Science: Residual powder from a previous run escapes from the filters or ducts and re-enters the spray zone. 

• Prevention: Switch to an Integrated Cyclone Recovery System. Unlike simple filter boxes, a cyclone system combined with a Fast Color Change Booth (like those made of PP or PVC) allows for thorough cleaning in minutes, significantly reducing downtime and contamination risks.
